About YCMOU
Founder President of Shri Shivaji Education Society who believe in Open Education that everyone must get education to make himself self educate.
Taking into consideration about this need Maharashtra Government has opted the policy of Distance Education which has started in year 1989. Colleges provide efficient education at a higher level to all the qualified and willing persons through YCMOU. The head office of the distance education of YCMOU is at Nashik district having the name of honor of First Chief Minister Yashwantrao Chavhan. In this university all courses are run for the education for all willing students. This education is much more supportive to the employees who are working in various institutions and offices. The employees, who are in job but not have completed their graduation, will complete their education, with the help of this distance education and also get promotions in services. Also fresh students take the benefit of this distance education.
Basically the main motto behind this distance education is “Earn While Learn” which has given a hand of help to the working employee that they must complete their graduation and Post graduation also.
When our institute work with Open University for courses of Bachelor of Library & Information Science i.e. (B. Lib. Sc.) we have send a proposal of recommendation for the B. Lib. Sc. course which is one year degree course. They have sanctioned our proposal and we started our first batch in year 1996 - 97. In this distance education only admitted students get readymade notes on subject.
We have granted a permission of total 40 students capacity for the same course. There are total 07 subjects with 03 practical subjects for which complete notes are provided.
The staff who is working in various colleges library and university library take admission for this course. The time schedule is beneficiary and suitable for them which don’t come in duty hours because the distance education classes are conducted on Sunday only. So more an more employees and students prefer for this distance education as it is professional course.
Also, our institute gave the distance education in Master of Philosophy i.e. (M. Phil) which is one and half year degree course that was minimum requirement qualification for the appointment as a Lecturer or Librarian besides NET/SET qualification which is having passing percentage only 1 percentage only. The UGC has given relaxation from NET / SET who are having the qualification of M. Phil from any University. So the candidates had achieved the M. Phil degree and they got appointed in various colleges. Now M. Phil degree course is ceased because of the non requirement of minimum qualification for the appointment of Assist. Professor or Librarian.
In year 2007-2008 our institute has started the Master Degree course in Library and Information Science i.e. M. Lib. Sci. in distance education and has permitted the intake capacity of 25 students but all the students have to qualify the B. Lib. Sci. degree. Right now both the courses B. Lib. Sc. and M. Lib. Sc. course are running successfully. Overall the passing percentage for the B. Lib. Sc is above 40 % and in M. Lib. also is above 50 %. Recently we have started B.A. in Arts course in year 2019-2020 with capacity of 100 students. In B.A. part 1 the subjects are same but from B.A. part 2 and B.A. part 3 choice based subjects that students can select. The books are also distributed to them, as the subjects they select.
Dr. M.P. Deshmukh working as a Coordinator and looks around the courses. For keeping in view the need of the student’s , college will run these courses successfully in the future also.
